NCIC illustrates future communications via " Broadband Tunnel",
unveils new IDD-prefix 007 at Taipei Telecom 2000
At the 4-day Taipei Telecom 2000 Aug 31 through Sept 03, NCIC
opts for warm colors ( red, yellow, orange) for overall site
decor and design to convey the message that broadband services
are more user-friendly and humanity-oriented than sheer advancement
of non-personable technologies. Getting the best out of a
rectangular space, NCIC created a " Broadband Tunnel " in
the shape of an optic-fiber cord wherein a multimedia presentation-together
with interactive games right outside of the "Tunnel"-functions
to convey visions and benefits people can expect from a broadband
future. " In order that better understanding of broadband
services can be communicated to trade show visitors, " NCIC
has created a " broadband tunnel " for a multi-media presentation
that addresses topics such as " broadband "," optic fibre
".
NCIC produced six mini-films on which the multimedia presentation
at the telecom show is based. The films are respectively titled
: teaser, sumo, 1 bill only, good as real, speed and chance
interviews.
- The "teaser" opens with a scene where people are
dozing off while waiting for traditional telecom
service, to contrast with the speed future broadband
is capable of?
- The "sumo" describes VR at its best-and no longer
out of the reach for most people-that an old sumo
fan blends right into the scene?
- The "1 bill only " illustrates upgraded service
along the line " One-stop Shopping " as bills become
consolidated and no longer flying around as many
individual ones?
- The "good as real " depicts the scene that
a little boy unintentionally freed the pet bird
of his mom, and right before she checks in on her
pet, the little boy is able to survey and find a
picture of a bird to help convince mom momentarily
that everything is cool?
- The "speed " conveys imagery of instant distant
learning?
- The "chance interviews " sums up NCIC's commitment
to future service features such as value-added broadband
services, fibre-to-door, 007 for IDD-prefix ,etc.

The area adjacent to the Tunnel features two interactive games
built around NCIC's IDD-prefix 007, so that trade show visitors
remember the new IDD alternative. Kou Ming-chi says " so that
people will have a glimpse into the broadband future and our
service features that come along with it. "
A liberalized telecom market also signals the beginning of
a lasting competition on service quality. Services go on to
include both contents and the professional expertise/attitude
that execute such contents. As far as contents are concerned,
NCIC will offer voice, data, multimedia services in a phased
fashion, while more value-added features are also being planned,
and the best way to have an overview of all the possible benefits
linked to a brave new world running on broadband is " to just
make a trip to NCIC booths for the ' Broadband Tunnel '.
NCIC will be displaying at the Taipei Telecom 2000, booths
D822, at the main TWTC. " To attract more interactions with
the crowd, " Kuo Ming-chi hastens to point out. " door prizes
will be given away to those who can produce the latest phone
bills inclusive of Internet charges but excluding billings
for mobile."
